Senior Planning Engineer
Location: Horley, West Sussex (hybrid)
Salary: up to £90,000 + car allowance + package
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join a leading contractor on a high-profile major M&E project at Gatwick Airport. Working on a complex and technically challenging scheme, you'll become part of an established planning team, supporting the successful delivery of a flagship project.
Reporting directly to the Planning Manager, you'll play a key role in developing, maintaining and monitoring the construction programme throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with operational, commercial and engineering teams, you'll produce detailed programmes using Primavera P6, monitor progress against key milestones, identify programme risks and opportunities, and provide accurate reporting to support informed project decisions. Your planning expertise will be instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery of this major M&E package.
We're looking for a Senior Planning Engineer with a proven background delivering M&E projects within a UK contractor environment. You'll be an advanced user of Primavera P6, possess a strong working knowledge of NEC contracts, and have the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and key project stakeholders. Previous experience working on complex infrastructure, aviation or major construction projects would be highly advantageous.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
