Senior Planning Engineer – Major Civil Engineering & Infrastructure
Location: Oxfordshire (Hybrid with accommodation provided)
Salary: £85,000 per annum plus additional benefits
A leading main contractor with a strong presence across the UK is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join their growing civil engineering division. With a busy pipeline of recently awarded projects, this is an excellent opportunity to step into a high-profile role within a respected employer known for delivering complex infrastructure successfully.
The Role
You’ll be supporting major schemes such as flood alleviation works, highways upgrades, and large-scale infrastructure programmes, taking ownership of developing, maintaining, and analysing project programmes from early stages through to completion. Working closely with project leadership, engineering teams, and commercial colleagues, you’ll ensure the programme is robust, realistic, and aligned with NEC contractual requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
