Senior Planning Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Permanent, Full Time
We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to play a key role in delivering a high-profile transmission upgrade programme. The project includes 69km of new overhead line, a new substation, and multiple extensions, forming a critical part of the UK’s energy infrastructure upgrade.
This is an opportunity to work on a major, complex programme where you will influence delivery strategy, drive performance, and support decision-making at project level.
The Role
You will be responsible for developing and managing the project programme from pre-construction through to commissioning and handover, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements and delivery objectives.
Working closely with project teams, stakeholders, and supply chain partners, you’ll play a central role in ensuring the programme reflects reality, identifies risk, and drives performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
