Senior Platform Engineer
Location: UK – Hybrid / Remote
Travel: Occasional travel to Northwood and Corsham
Clearance: Active SC Clearance required
Type: Permanent
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join a growing Defence Technology organisation developing secure, mission-critical platforms for UK Government and Defence customers.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes-based platforms, including deployment into highly restricted and classified environments.
You will work across Cloud, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, DevSecOps and Platform Engineering, helping to build secure CI/CD pipelines, integrate security and observability tooling, and support the delivery of modern cloud-native services.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in technically complex environments and collaborating with engineers, security teams and UK Government/Defence stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement secure, scalable cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
- Design, deploy and support Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Support platform deployments across connected, disconnected and classified environments.
- Develop and maintain secure CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Build Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi and/or equivalent technologies such as Terraform.
- Develop, debug and maintain cloud-native services and microservices, including Go-based services.
- Integrate SIEM, security, monitoring and observability tooling.
- Support platform security, compliance and operational resilience.
- Collaborate with engineering, security and product teams to deliver technical solutions.
- Work with UK Government and Defence stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver secure platforms.
- Contribute to technical architecture, engineering standards and DevSecOps strategy.
- Research and implement new technologies to solve challenges associated with secure and disconnected environments.
- Produce clear technical documentation and architectural guidance.

Essential Skills & Experience
- 5–7+ years' experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure or Systems Engineering.
- Strong experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, ideally with Pulumi.
- Experience developing secure CI/CD and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Strong understanding of cloud security and secure infrastructure design.
- Experience with monitoring, observability and/or SIEM platforms.
- Experience with Go, Rust or another modern programming language.
- Understanding of REST APIs, microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Strong Linux and cloud-native engineering experience.
- Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
- Experience working with Government, Defence, national security or other highly regulated environments.
- Active UK SC Clearance.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working in air-gapped, disconnected or classified environments.
- UK Defence or national security experience.
- Knowledge of MOD Secure by Design, JSP 453, NCSC Cloud Security Principles or NIST 800-53.
- AWS, Azure or GCP Solutions Architect certification.
- Experience within a start-up or high-growth technology environment.
- Experience with GitLab, Google Workspace and Slack.
- Familiarity with accreditation, risk management and security assurance processes.
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude or Gemini.
