Senior Platform Engineer
Developer Experience Team
London / Hybrid | Senior level
Shape the platform that helps engineering teams across Nando’s deliver with confidence. As a Senior Platform Engineer in our Developer Experience team, you’ll lead complex technical improvements, stay close to the code and make it easier for teams to build reliable technology for our restaurants and customers.
The role
You’ll take ownership of complex platform work from understanding the problem through design, delivery and operation. Alongside hands-on engineering, you’ll help shape technical direction, guide design decisions and develop others. You’ll treat the platform as a product, using developer needs and feedback to decide where it can make the greatest difference.
What you will do
- Lead the design and delivery of scalable, maintainable platform capabilities on GCP, making clear trade-offs between developer experience, reliability, security and cost.
- Work across engineering, product and operations teams to identify shared needs and influence the platform roadmap and technical priorities.
- Design reusable infrastructure as code, automation, APIs and self-service capabilities that teams can adopt with confidence.
- Evolve CI/CD pipelines and standardised delivery patterns, balancing consistency with the flexibility engineering teams need.
- Improve observability and operational reliability, guide the investigation of complex issues and turn lessons into lasting platform improvements.
- Set a strong example through hands-on delivery, thoughtful code and design reviews, clear documentation and mentoring other engineers.
- Assess platform success through adoption, developer feedback and delivery improvements, using the evidence to refine what the team builds next.

What you will bring
- Substantial hands-on experience in platform engineering, DevOps or cloud engineering, including ownership of complex changes used by multiple teams.
- Strong programming or scripting skills, with experience building maintainable tooling, automation or APIs in languages such as Bash, JavaScript or Go.
- Strong practical GCP experience, including designing, provisioning, monitoring and scaling production cloud infrastructure.
- Experience designing reusable infrastructure as code with Terraform or similar tools, and establishing patterns that others can maintain and extend.
- Experience designing and improving CI/CD workflows, with a clear understanding of safe deployment and reliable software delivery.
- The ability to use observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or OpenTelemetry to diagnose complex problems and improve reliability.
- Evidence of leading technical decisions, explaining trade-offs, mentoring engineers and influencing colleagues across teams.
Useful additional experience
- Experience designing or running an internal developer platform; Docker, Kubernetes or Cloud Run; security, compliance and secrets management, including tools such as Wiz; or using product practices and metrics to improve platform adoption and developer experience.
