Senior Platform / Site Reliability Engineer — LAMP & AWS
Location: London, UK – Hybrid
Occasional Travel: Basingstoke
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive / Best Salary
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Platform / Site Reliability Engineer to join our team and take ownership of the reliability, operational support and gradual modernization of established platforms. The role is primarily focused on maintaining and supporting a legacy Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) environment, including troubleshooting, break-fix and operational support. Alongside this, you will play an important role in containerizing existing scripts and services using Docker and supporting their migration to modern AWS infrastructure. This is a hands-on platform and operations role focused on pragmatic modernization rather than a wholesale application rewrite.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the existing LAMP platform, Linux servers, scripts and services.
- Provide hands-on operational support and break-fix activities to maintain service continuity.
- Improve the reliability, stability and maintainability of the existing legacy environment.
- Containerize existing scripts and services using Docker for deployment on AWS infrastructure.
- Support incremental re-platforming and cloud migration, including lift-and-shift and selective modernization.
- Work across web servers, databases, operating systems and operational scripts to identify and resolve issues.
- Take ownership of technical issues and drive them through to resolution with minimal supervision.
- Work effectively in environments where documentation or formal handover may be limited.
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders and provide appropriate updates on operational issues.
- Help establish more robust and maintainable approaches to platform operations and deployment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
