Senior Plumbing and Heating Technician
We are delighted to be working with a leading higher education organisation looking for a Senior Plumbing and Heating Technician to join its in-house Estates and Facilities Maintenance team.
The organisation operates a large and varied estate, including academic buildings, student accommodation, laboratories, offices, sports facilities, plant rooms and communal areas. You will help ensure that these facilities remain safe, comfortable, efficient and fully operational for students, staff and visitors.
About Your New Job
As a Senior Plumbing and Heating Technician, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and improvement works across the organisation's buildings and facilities.
You will be responsible for maintaining plumbing, heating and associated mechanical systems in a safe, efficient and compliant condition.
Your duties will include:
- Maintaining and repairing domestic and commercial plumbing and heating systems.
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and responding to reactive maintenance requests.
- Diagnosing faults across hot and cold-water systems, heating systems, pumps, valves, tanks, cylinders, sanitaryware and associated plant.
- Maintaining systems in academic buildings, student residences, communal areas, plant rooms and other campus facilities.
- Carrying out statutory inspections and testing where appropriately qualified and authorised.
- Supporting the maintenance of water hygiene and legionella control systems in line with relevant procedures.
- Reporting defective plant, equipment and building services to the maintenance helpdesk.
- Ensuring plant rooms, service areas and equipment are kept safe, clean and in good working order.
- Completing repairs and maintenance work in occupied buildings, including student accommodation.
- Working with colleagues, specialist contractors and other maintenance disciplines to resolve complex issues.
- Maintaining accurate records of work completed, inspections, defects, materials and health and safety information.
- Using a computerised maintenance management system or building logbook to record maintenance visits and follow-up actions.
- Supporting out-of-hours or emergency call-out arrangements when required.

You will be expected to plan and prioritise your workload, respond effectively to urgent issues and take responsibility for more complex maintenance tasks. You will also communicate professionally with students, staff, contractors and other building users.
Working Hours
The standard working pattern is:
- Monday to Friday
- 08:00 - 16:12
- 36-hour working week
Participation in an out-of-hours rota may be required to support business continuity and emergency maintenance requirements.

What Skills You Need
To apply, you will need:
- A recognised Level 3 qualification in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing and Heating or a related discipline, such as an NVQ, SVQ or City & Guilds qualification.
- Significant post-qualification experience in plumbing and heating maintenance.
- Experience working in a commercial, public sector, education, healthcare, residential, facilities management or student accommodation environment.
- Good practical knowledge of hot and cold-water systems, heating systems, pumps, valves, cylinders, tanks, sanitaryware and associated mechanical plant.
- Good planning, organisational and prioritisation skills.
