Help autonomous systems understand the 3D world around them.

About Kybera

At Kybera, we're building the infrastructure that enables autonomous systems to operate safely, reliably and at scale in complex industrial environments.

Our technology brings together mapping, simulation, fleet intelligence and autonomous vehicles to help industrial operators move from digitisation and early-stage automation towards safe, scalable autonomous operations.

We're starting with ports and logistics, where autonomous technology has to work in the real world: alongside people, existing vehicles, infrastructure and legacy systems.

We're a small, highly technical team tackling some genuinely difficult engineering problems, with the opportunity to help shape how industrial autonomy moves from pilot projects into everyday operation.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Point Cloud Specialist to lead the development, integration and optimisation of our point-cloud-based perception capabilities.

Reporting to our Head of Engineering, this is a senior, hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of LiDAR, 3D perception, deep learning and real-time autonomous systems.

You'll combine classical point cloud processing with modern DNN-based approaches to solve complex 3D perception problems, with a particular focus on developing systems that perform reliably in challenging, real-world industrial environments.

What you'll be doing

  • Define and evolve the technical roadmap for point-cloud-based perception, spanning classical processing and DNN-based 3D perception approaches.
  • Architect and develop perception pipelines covering object detection and classification, semantic and instance segmentation, tracking, freespace detection and occupancy estimation.
  • Develop and evaluate modern DNN-based point cloud models, including voxel, pillar, range-view, BEV, sparse-convolution and transformer-based approaches.
  • Design and optimise real-time LiDAR and 3D perception systems against latency, compute, memory, accuracy and reliability requirements.
  • Develop robust preprocessing and feature-extraction techniques, including filtering, clustering, ground removal, motion compensation and coordinate-frame handling.
  • Improve perception performance in difficult real-world conditions including occlusion, sparse returns, reflective surfaces, adverse weather and dynamic industrial environments.
  • Work closely with our mapping and localisation teams on point cloud registration, alignment, map quality, 3D representation and perception-map interfaces.
  • Prototype and de-risk new technical approaches, turning promising ideas into robust solutions that can be handed over cleanly to component-owning teams.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We'd love to hear from you if you have...

  • Significant experience in point cloud processing, LiDAR SLAM, 3D geometry or a closely related field, including experience operating at senior or lead level.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of DNN-based point cloud models for real-time applications.
  • Deep, production-grade C++ expertise alongside strong Python skills.
  • Excellent understanding of point cloud registration, segmentation, surface reconstruction and large-scale 3D data structures.
  • Strong prototyping skills and the ability to quickly test, evaluate and de-risk new technical ideas.
  • Experience solving complex perception problems where performance, robustness and reliability matter.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Experience within autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial automation, transportation, surveying/geomatics or other mission-critical infrastructure environments would be a bonus, as would a strong publication record, open-source contributions or other recognised technical work in LiDAR and 3D processing.

Don't worry if you don't tick every box. We're interested in people with strong fundamentals, curiosity and the right mindset, even if your experience has taken a slightly different route.

Why Kybera?

You'll be joining Kybera at an exciting stage of our journey, as we take advanced autonomous technology out of development environments and into real industrial operations.

That means the problems we solve aren't theoretical. Our technology needs to work safely and reliably around people, vehicles, infrastructure and existing systems in complex environments where the real world rarely behaves exactly as expected.

We're a small, fast-moving team spanning autonomy, robotics, software, mechanical, electrical and systems engineering. You'll work closely with people across those disciplines, have genuine ownership from day one and be able to see the direct impact of your work.

We're building for the point where autonomy becomes useful at scale, not simply impressive in a demo.

For this role in particular, you'll have significant influence over how Kybera approaches 3D perception and LiDAR-based understanding, helping turn cutting-edge point cloud techniques into dependable capabilities that work outside the lab.

If you want to solve genuinely difficult 3D perception problems and help bring industrial autonomy into everyday operation, we'd love to hear from you.
