About the Role

Hargreaves Lansdown (HL) are now recruiting for a Senior Portfolio Manager to join the team. This exciting role is at the forefront of the Transformation Office, transforming and assuring how we deliver strategic and complex change across the business.

As a Senior Portfolio Manager you will be part of a small team responsible for driving forward at pace our Value Creation Plan Portfolio. Using insight to inform quality decisions at local and C-suite level, with focus on delivery data automation and analysis. You will act as an SME for best practice across the Transformation Office and delivery community to ensure we are continuously improving our delivery frameworks, controls and guidelines to ensure added value and delivery to time, cost and quality.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Drive best practice in the use of AI and automation to improve the quality, consistency and efficiency of aggregated portfolio data, enabling clearer insight, faster decision-making and stronger portfolio-level reporting.
  • Support the embedding of 1st line Delivery Assurance frameworks. Gathering independent evidence and providing both detailed analysis and executive summary reporting.
  • Use data driven analysis to provide insight and recommendation on status of committed Programme and Project outcomes (time, cost, quality, scope, benefits), to achieve the best possible result for HL and our clients.
  • Support the continuous improvement and embedding of the Portfolio reporting suite including delivery status, OKR, Value Creation Plan and committed benefits for consumption by ELT and SLT stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain Portfolio level reporting, provide detailed analysis on Programme and Project status to produce an aggregated Portfolio view, including delivery status, OKR and benefit insight for consumption by Senior and Executive Leadership team.
  • Drive a level of autonomy, holding peers, delivery managers and key stakeholders to account while adopting a high-performance culture to ensure better, simpler, faster and cheaper deliverables for HL and our clients.
  • Support and be a champion of the Project/Portfolio/Programme Centre of Excellence and ensure all programme and project professionals feel part of the community and work to a consistent set of standards.
  • A change agent, challenging the status quo, delivering industry best in class standards while driving a culture of collaboration and efficiency through team interactions and maximising use of tools and data.
  • Provide coaching and support to all project and programme management professionals on best practice, tools, planning and ways of working.
  • Support the embedding and continuous improvement of the Programme Management delivery methodology and toolset for HL.

About You

Essential

  • Strong team player with ability to influence and drive change across the organisation. Experience of Change Management and/or Delivery Assurance with understanding of Waterfall, Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Experience of using automation and advanced Excel skills to aggregate, analyse and present complex data at portfolio level, enabling clear insight and informed decision-making.
  • Exceptional data gathering, analysis and assimilation skills, working with varied and complex data sets (e.g. Excel expert, strong attention to detail).
  • In-depth experience of change discipline e.g. Project Financials, RAID-D management, planning, status reporting, stage-gate concepts.
  • Excellent storytelling, with experience of making the complex, simple (e.g. C-suite reporting).
  • Demonstrable evidence of defining, establishing, and facilitating programme governance structures to keep key stakeholders engaged, aligned and on track (up to SLT level).
  • Critical thinking and evaluation, with evidence of being able to identify risk and opportunities and supporting in implementing any mitigating action.
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to challenge, influence, negotiate and innovate at the senior levels of HL (LT and occasionally SLT).
  • Flexible and adaptable; able to deliver and thrive in ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrates a curious nature, exploring new ways of working and questions the details to gain full clarity on what is required to achieve goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-starter with ability to work both on own and part of a team.

Desirable but not essential

  • Awareness of activities outside of Portfolio Analysis and Assurance that are key to success e.g. Business case development, Programme/Project financial management, client experience, product strategy, business solution design, technical and operational readiness.

Interview Process

The interview process for this role will be an introductory call followed by a presentation and competency-based interview, with option for additional meet and greet sessions with the Transformation Office leadership team.

Working Schedule

This role is based in our Bristol head office, BS2. This is a permanent full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You'll be based in our Bristol office three days a week, giving you the opportunity to collaborate closely with colleagues while benefiting from the flexibility of hybrid working.
