Actuarial Pricing
London
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The Pricing function supports underwriters and management in building robust and profitable portfolios by providing objective insights through deep product expertise. This role supports underwriting teams managing multi-line portfolios across delegated authority, portfolio-based, and structured capacity arrangements. Working closely with underwriters, you will provide pricing expertise to assess opportunities, monitor portfolio performance, and support underwriting decisions. What will you do in this role?
This role will:
- Own end to end pricing for complex, high value, multi class portfolio deals, partnering across product teams to assess risk, return, and capital efficiency, and deliver clear recommendations on deal structure, pricing adequacy, and portfolio mix.
- Partner with underwriters to design and optimise portfolio structures, including attachment points, limits, and the use of traditional reinsurance and alternative capital solutions, and act as a senior pricing partner across underwriting, exposure, reserving, capital modelling, and finance.
- Deliver regular portfolio and product monitoring analyses to identify issues and opportunities, and support the design, execution, and tracking of portfolio action plans with underwriting teams.
- Analyse rate change, price adequacy, exposure growth, market conditions, competitive dynamics, and loss trends, clearly articulating drivers of portfolio performance.
- Maintain and enhance benchmarks and portfolio metrics, working closely with Product Pricing and Analytics teams, and support the ongoing development of pricing tools, models, data flows, and analytical capabilities.
- Derive expected loss ratios for business planning, considering business strategy, market conditions, mix of business, trends, and reinsurance structures.
- Contribute to the development and consistency of pricing standards, methodologies, and governance across portfolio business.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and informal leadership to Portfolio Pricing Actuaries and Analysts.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
