Senior Portfolio Underwriter

The Senior Portfolio Underwriter at HSB holds the paramount responsibility for managing, monitoring, expanding, and optimizing the portfolio products for the company’s largest and most critical client company relationships. This role is central to achieving profit and growth objectives and is a cornerstone of HSB's strategic initiative to foster business growth. It involves acting as a catalyst in the introduction of new products and managing the performance of existing client companies.

As a thought leader for clients, the Senior Portfolio Underwriter is tasked with devising innovative solutions by tapping into HSB’s comprehensive resources, encompassing data, products, and services. The role demands a tactical deployment of HSB’s capabilities to maximize and enhance client partnerships.

In collaboration with Product Managers and the Underwriting Lead, the Senior Portfolio Underwriter utilizes creative data analysis methods, such as diagnostic and predictive analytics, to gain a deep understanding and optimization of product performance. These analytical techniques are essential for developing targeted strategies for corrective actions, ensuring rate adequacy, precise price segmentation, and identifying emerging loss trends. This responsibility includes a thorough examination of claims, engineering reports, expenses, exposure data/profile shifts, pure premium trends, and third-party exposure data.

The Senior Portfolio Underwriter is also responsible for crafting and delivering compelling client presentations externally. These presentations are designed to effectively communicate financial results, data analyses, rate assessments, and evolving loss trends, positioning the Senior Portfolio Underwriter as the technical authority for both clients and the Client Integration Team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
