This exciting permanent post is an excellent opportunity to work in a new 3 bedded Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) within our Critical Care services. The PACU will care for post-operative patients who require closer monitoring of observations, pain management, and fluid balance.
It will be based within the Critical Care template and you will be expected to work alongside Surgeons and anaesthetic staff. Patients will generally be transferred from PACU back to the surgical ward each morning. Please note that you do not need theatre experience for this post, but experience of Critical Care or Surgery would be useful. A full competency package will be provided by our PACU Nurse Educator.
Main Duties of the Job
- Demonstrates advanced specialist practice, undertaking holistic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for patients throughout the pre-operative/immediate post-operative and PACU pathway.
- Responsible for the quality of care delivered within the clinical area, empowering and enabling the peri-operative/post-operative team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualification/ Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- NMC registered nurse / HCPC registered ODP
- Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to the area.
- Knowledge of local policies/procedures and guidelines.
- Knowledge of national strategies related to the sphere of nursing/midwifery and current professional nursing issues.
- Mentoring/Teaching & Assessing or 998 course or willing to complete

Desirable Criteria
- Degree in a relevant clinical/professional subject.
- Management qualification.
- PALS/APLS
- Knowledge of leadership and management theories.
Experience
Essential Criteria
- Significant post-Registration experience.
- Extensive experience in Theatre/Recovery/Critical Care
- Management experience.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of undertaking research work/audit work and standard setting.
Attitudes & Abilities
Essential Criteria
- Evidence of good organization skills.
- Advanced clinical skills/knowledge relevant to the area of expertise.
- Evidence of people management and leadership skills alongside the ability to care with warmth and understanding.
