Job Description
Join a high-performing Technology Infrastructure team as a PostgreSQL DBA, responsible for the availability, performance, security and resilience of business-critical database platforms.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on database specialist who enjoys working with enterprise-scale infrastructure, automation and highly available production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, upgrade and patch PostgreSQL databases.
- Design and support high-availability, replication and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Manage backup, restore and point-in-time recovery processes.
- Monitor and optimise database performance, capacity and availability.
- Troubleshoot complex database incidents and performance issues.
- Carry out database migrations, upgrades and infrastructure changes.
- Automate administration and operational tasks using scripting and DevOps tools.
- Implement database security, access controls, auditing and vulnerability remediation.
- Work closely with application, cloud, infrastructure and security teams.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.
- Participate in change management, incident response and on-call support.

Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, Database Engineer or Database Consultant.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture and administration.
- Experience with replication, failover, high availability and disaster recovery.
- Solid understanding of backup, recovery, WAL, vacuuming and database maintenance.
- Advanced SQL, query optimisation and performance-tuning skills.
- Good Linux/Unix administration and shell-scripting experience.
- Experience with Python, Bash, Ansible or similar automation technologies.
- Experience supporting critical databases in a 24/7 production environment.
- Understanding of ITIL processes, incident management and change control.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
