Responsibilities

  • Investigate and resolve advanced PostgreSQL incidents, performance bottlenecks, and configuration issues.
  • Optimise database queries, indexes, and workload settings to ensure peak efficiency.
  • Manage high availability solutions, including failover processes, streaming and logical replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Perform database upgrades, patching, back-ups, restorations, and point-in-time recovery procedures.
  • Support migrations, with a preference for experience in Oracle-to-PostgreSQL transitions.
  • Document root-cause analysis findings and technical solutions clearly and comprehensively.
  • Collaborate closely with enterprise clients and internal engineering teams to deliver seamless support.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in supporting and administrating PostgreSQL in production environments.
  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, internals, and performance tuning practices.
  • Proven track record supporting replication, high availability, and backup/recovery processes.
  • Proficiency with Linux systems and complex SQL troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle critical incidents in customer-facing settings.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with AWS RDS or Aurora PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Patroni, pgBackRest, Barman, PgBouncer, or similar.
  • Background in Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations.
  • Automation skills using Bash, Python, Terraform, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in managed services or enterprise support environments.
