Senior Power BI Engineer / Data Engineer – Contract
Location: London – 3 days onsite per week
Rate: Up to £450 per day
Contract Length: 6 months, with strong potential to extend
Start Date: ASAP
Client: Leading Energy Organisation
We are looking for a Senior Power BI Engineer / Data Engineer to join a major enterprise data and analytics programme within the energy sector.
This is a senior, hands-on position requiring someone with 10+ years’ experience who is comfortable working across Power BI and modern Azure data platforms. You will be responsible for delivering scalable analytics solutions across the full lifecycle, from data ingestion and transformation through to semantic modelling and enterprise reporting. The underlying technical environment includes Power BI, Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and Azure.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop enterprise Power BI datasets, semantic models and dashboards.
- Build advanced solutions using DAX, Power Query M and dimensional/star-schema modelling.
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines across Azure-based data platforms.
- Work with large and complex datasets, ensuring strong performance, scalability and reliability.
- Implement RLS, access controls, governance and data-quality standards.
- Optimise Power BI, SQL and wider data workloads for performance.
- Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate complex requirements into production-ready solutions.
- Support CI/CD, release management and production environments.

Required Experience
- 10+ years’ experience within BI, analytics or data engineering environments.
- Strong, recent and hands-on Power BI engineering experience.
- Advanced DAX, semantic modelling, Power Query and Power BI performance tuning.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-volume data.
- Strong experience across the Azure data platform.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale, production data and reporting solutions.
- Experience owning solutions across ingestion, transformation, modelling and reporting rather than focusing purely on dashboard development.
- Strong stakeholder communication and problem-solving skills.
