Senior Power Electronics Engineer

I’m working with a fast-growing UK engineering business developing high-performance power electronics and advanced electromechanical products.
They’re looking for an experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer to take genuine end-to-end ownership of new hardware designs — from initial architecture and component selection through schematic, PCB layout, bring-up, validation and ultimately production.
This is a particularly hands-on design position. You won't be handing PCB layout to another team; they're looking for someone who understands that achieving exceptional performance requires schematic, layout, thermal performance and switching behaviour to be considered together.
What you'll be working on:
- Designing high-performance power conversion and motor-drive electronics
- Developing three-phase inverter architectures, including power stages, gate drives and current sensing
- Owning schematic capture and PCB layout
- Designing for demanding power-density and thermal requirements
- Managing EMI/EMC challenges associated with high-speed switching
- Bringing up and characterising new hardware in the lab
- Using test results to drive subsequent design iterations
- Selecting and qualifying power semiconductors and other critical components
- Designing products with manufacture, testability and scale in mind
- Working closely with embedded software, controls, mechanical and test engineers throughout development

As the product portfolio develops, there will also be opportunities to work across a broader range of power conversion, energy management and high-performance electronic systems.
What we're looking for:
- You'll have substantial hands-on experience designing power electronics that have reached production or advanced prototype stage.
- We're particularly interested in engineers with experience across:
- Three-phase inverters / motor drives
- Power stage and gate-drive design
- High-current / high-power-density electronics
- PCB layout for switching power electronics
- Thermal management and parasitic effects
- EMI/EMC-conscious design
- Hardware bring-up and characterisation
- Design for manufacture and test

Experience with GaN, SiC, battery systems, charging, power distribution or other advanced power-conversion technologies would also be highly relevant.
Potential backgrounds could include automotive/e-mobility, motorsport, aerospace, robotics, industrial drives, energy systems or other high-performance electronics environments.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to own their designs rather than one small part of the development cycle, while helping shape a new generation of high-performance hardware.
