Senior Power Electronics Engineer
We’re looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to take ownership of high-performance electronic hardware from initial concept through to production for a UK defence startup.
This is a highly hands-on design role covering power electronics, PCB design, hardware bring-up and product industrialisation. You’ll work closely with firmware, controls, mechanical and test engineers to develop compact, high-performance power systems for demanding applications.
Essential:
Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on power electronics design experience
- SC eligibility required (dual British & NATO nationalities considered)
- Proven experience taking electronic products from concept through to production or qualified prototype
- Three-phase inverter / motor drive design experience
- Strong PCB schematic and layout capability using Altium Designer or similar
- Power semiconductor selection, gate drive and current sensing experience
- High-density power electronics design, including thermal and parasitic considerations
- EMI / EMC design experience for switching power electronics
- Design for Manufacture and Test (DFM/DFT)
- Strong hardware bring-up, characterisation and debugging experience
Desirable:
- GaN or SiC power electronics
- Battery management, power distribution or charging systems
- Aerospace, defence or other high-performance electronics experience
- Experience designing hardware for regulated EMC / environmental qualification
- Understanding of field-oriented control and motor control interfaces
- CAN or similar embedded communications protocols
- Experience working closely with firmware and control software teams
- Comfortable to operate in less structured environments
