The Senior Preconstruction Manager provides strategic leadership in the planning, management and delivery of high-value, complex and high-profile bid submissions. The role shapes win strategies, ensuring submissions are competitive, client-focused and clearly articulate the organisation's value proposition.

Working closely with directors and senior leadership, the role influences how the business positions itself to clients and drives a consistent, high-quality approach to work-winning. The role also leads, mentors and develops the bid team, while fostering continuous improvement and supporting a high-performing, collaborative environment aligned with organisational objectives.

  • Support senior leadership in go/no go decisions and market prioritisation
  • Allocate resources across concurrent bids to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Lead and oversee major, strategic and complex bids from opportunity qualification through to submission
  • Ensure bid approaches align with wider business, sector and client strategies
  • Lead internal settlement, compliance and governance reviews.
  • Shape and drive bid strategies, win themes and value propositions
  • Ensure bids clearly articulate differentiation, certainty, risk management and client value
  • Support business development activity, client engagement and strategic pursuits
  • Act as a senior interface with Directors, Managing Directors and Business Unit leads
  • Line manage and mentor Bid Managers and Bid Coordinators
  • Embed best practice, continuous improvement and consistency across all submissions.
  • Support preparation of executive summaries, board papers, and approval documentation
  • Set and maintain the standard for written quality, visual presentation and messaging
  • Act as a guardian of tone, brand and professionalism across all work winning material
  • Develop deep understanding of key clients, sectors and competitors
  • Lead post bid reviews and feedback analysis to strengthen future performance

What do I need to be successful in this role:

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and engage at senior and executive levels
  • Significant experience leading bids for large-scale, complex construction projects
  • Strong commercial, strategic and client-focused approach to work-winning
  • Proven leadership capability, including coaching, mentoring and decision-making
  • Experience managing multiple high-value, time-critical bid pursuits simultaneously
  • Experience leading and managing high-performing teams, including setting direction, providing feedback and supporting development.
