Lead Pre-Sales Engineer

I'm hiring for a Lead Pre-Sales Engineer on behalf of our client, a deep-tech company commercialising quantum-enhanced computing.

This is a customer-facing technical role, not a back-office solutions job. You'd be the trusted technical adviser to customers buying compute (CPU and GPU), leading the deep technical conversation and moving deals through the funnel without a rep alongside you.

What the role involves

  • Running technical discovery: working out what the customer really needs, how they make decisions, and what state-of-the-art solution delivers it
  • Explaining compute, clusters and performance, and being clear on the trade-offs and why customers choose one architecture or vendor over another
  • Positioning the product against commodity CPU and GPU boxes
  • Supporting demos and proof-of-concept engagements, and running technical deep dives and presentations
  • Travelling to customers and running meetings independently

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What makes this a great next step

  • High autonomy: you shape how technical opportunities get qualified and won
  • Direct exposure to Quantum HPC, ML and optimisation, and enterprise customers across chemistry, pharma, energy, finance and defence
  • Genuine career runway: as the team scales, there's a real path to owning a region (US/EU/Asia) or moving into a more commercial track
  • Small, motivated team with high visibility, and your work directly shapes product roadmap and go-to-market

What you need

  • A classic technical pre-sales background, with the customer-facing deep dive at the core of your work
  • Strong understanding of compute and clusters, able to lead performance conversations with technical buyers
  • Experience advising customers on architecture and vendor choices, and explaining the trade-offs
  • Strong discovery skills: asking the right questions, understanding the customer's decision process, and presenting technology accordingly
  • Self-sufficiency: comfortable getting on a plane and running a customer meeting alone
  • A good enough grasp of the product to position it credibly
