Our client is seeking a Senior Primary Engineer to join its Transmission and Distribution team in Scotland on a permanent basis. The role will involve delivering senior technical engineering services for high-voltage and extra high-voltage substation projects across Transmission, Distribution and renewable energy sectors, including onshore and offshore wind, solar and BESS developments.

What you'll be doing:

  • Prepare proposals, scopes, conceptual designs, execution plans, engineering estimates, project schedules and detailed design packages.
  • Develop layouts and design documentation for Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), including land utilisation plans, elevations, conduit layouts, earthing arrangements, lighting, lightning protection, bills of materials and design calculations.
  • Undertake busbar sizing, sag and tension assessments, and short-circuit force calculations for strung bus and equipment bus arrangements.
  • Coordinate design activities with civil and structural, networks and transmission line teams, while conducting design reviews and liaising with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Produce technical reports, presentations and FEED-stage consultancy deliverables, ensuring compliance with client standards, IEC, IEEE, NGTS and relevant UK technical requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and quality, carry out technical checks, support multiple project teams and ensure submissions meet agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers, promote Safety by Design, and contribute to the improvement of design processes, tools and workflows.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
