Your Mechanical Engineering Expertise Could Shape the Future of UK Water
You know water. You understand the complexity and challenges of delivering resilient infrastructure in a highly regulated sector. Now, what could you achieve with the scale, breadth and opportunity of working for one of the UK’s leading water consultancies.
At Stantec, we’re continuing to grow our Water teams and are looking to connect with experienced Principal and Senior Principal Mechanical Engineers who can bring proven water sector expertise, technical leadership and a passion for delivering high-quality engineering.
This isn’t about simply filling a role. We’re looking for experienced professionals who can take technical ownership, influence project strategy, build trusted client relationships and help shape the future direction of our mechanical engineering capability.
At Principal level
You’ll play a key role in leading technical delivery, providing engineering expertise to complex projects, developing client relationships and supporting the growth of our mechanical capability.
At Senior Principal level
The opportunity goes further. We’re looking for established technical leaders who can provide strategic direction, act as senior client advisors, shape engineering solutions, lead major programmes, support business development and develop the next generation of mechanical engineers.
Be part of the AMP8 investment programme
AMP8 represents one of the biggest periods of investment the UK water sector has seen, and Stantec is already playing a significant role in helping water companies deliver their programmes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
