Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Nottingham
Salary: GBP50,000 – GBP65,000
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Hybrid/Flexible
The Company
A well–established multidisciplinary Property and Construction Consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join its Nottingham office.
With nearly 90 years of experience, the consultancy delivers Building Services, engineering and property consultancy solutions across sectors including defence, justice, education, commercial, residential and public sector developments. Operating nationally, the business is known for its collaborative approach, technical excellence and commitment to delivering sustainable design solutions.
This role sits within the Building Services team, with a primary focus on Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) projects across the UK.
The Role
As a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will take a leading role in the delivery of electrical building services projects, providing technical expertise, managing project delivery and supporting the development of junior engineers.
Working closely with the Associate team, you'll manage projects from initial feasibility through to completion while maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring the successful delivery of high–quality electrical designs.
The Role Will Include
- Leading the design and delivery of electrical building services projects
- Producing electrical calculations, specifications, reports and technical drawings
- Managing projects from feasibility through construction and completion
- Meeting with clients to develop project briefs, budgets and technical solutions
- Preparing tender documentation, reviewing contractor submissions and producing tender reports
- Managing projects during construction, carrying out site inspections and monitoring installation quality
- Preparing condition surveys and technical reports on existing installations
- Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards
- Mentoring, supporting and managing junior engineers
- Managing project workloads and resource requirements
- Supporting business development and maintaining strong client relationships
- Ensuring designs comply with current legislation, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and sustainability standards
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams

Requirements
The successful Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer will ideally have:
- Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
- Experience within electrical building services consultancy design
- Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards Chartership
- Membership of CIBSE, IET or an equivalent professional body
- Experience leading projects and mentoring junior engineers
- Strong knowledge of electrical building services design
- Experience using AutoCAD, Revit and electrical design software such as Amtech
- Good understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE Guides and relevant industry standards
- Strong communication and client–facing skills
- Excellent organisational and project management abilities
Due to the nature of the projects, candidates must either hold UK Security Clearance (SC) or be eligible to obtain SC clearance.
