Malvern Optical Overview

Malvern Optical is a research and development provider primarily in the electro-optic and electro-magnetic systems domains. In addition, the Company provides electro-magnetic measurement services and electro-optical materials assessment and evaluation both at laboratory and platform level. We also provide independent technical advice within these areas.

Role Description

We require a Senior / Principal EME Engineer to join our team at the Malvern Optical facility on Pershore Airfield, to undertake and support a range of EME and TEMPEST and electronic warfare-related assessment, testing and consultancy activities testing primarily on military products and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead EME testing to military standards within our UKAS-accredited facilities.
  • Act as a senior technical authority from initial customer engagement, through contract proposal and negotiations, test preparation and execution.
  • Provide consultancy to support customers prior to, during, or after any testing activities.
  • Support and undertake the creation of control plans, test plans and test reports.
  • Support the development of new test capabilities and specialist methods to enable UKAS accreditation as necessary.
  • Mentor and lead teams of EME engineers to execute specific tasks and roles and to enable and contribute to the development of the whole EME team.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Extensive hands-on experience of performing EMC testing to the requirements of Def Stan 59-411 and Def Stan 61-005 or equivalent. Experience of Tempest testing is a distinct advantage.
  • Experience of Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, electromagnetic operational environments, spectrum management, RF threat systems, EW testing, T&E activities or related consultancy would be highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to interpret statements of work, customer specifications turn these into executable test and measurement programmes.
  • Ability to offer consultancy services from developing an EME proving strategy to preparing test plans
  • Experience of working in a UKAS (or other ISO/IEC 17025) accredited test environment.
  • Skilled in mentoring, training and coaching other EME staff
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to enable effective interaction with customers, both external and internal.

As part of your job role it is likely you will be required to assist in other non-related technical areas and trials activities within the Company.

The post will require the successful candidate to be willing to undertake travel within the UK or abroad in support of project or business activities and to occasionally work outside of normal working hours.

NB: Due to the nature of our business, candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) at the point of recruitment.
