Hollis
Hollis is an independent, multi-disciplinary real estate consultancy, trusted by owners, occupiers, developers and funders across the UK and Europe to get more from their buildings. For over 30 years, we have combined deep technical expertise with commercial insight to deliver advice that is genuinely independent, practical and built around what clients actually need.
What sets us apart is how we work. We are a collaborative, one team business made up of surveyors, engineers, ESG consultants, project managers and technical specialists. We work openly, challenge thinking and back each other to deliver the best outcomes, while finding some fun along the way.
As our Building Safety & Fire service continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior/Principal Fire Engineer (or Consultant) to play a leading role in the continued development of our London & South East service.
The opportunity:
This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make a visible impact in a growing, ambitious service. You will lead the delivery of complex fire engineering and building safety projects, act as a trusted technical advisor to clients and regulators, and help shape how our service develops across the London & South East, the UK and beyond.
You will have real autonomy and ownership, with the support of accessible leaders and experienced colleagues across Hollis. You will work closely with Building Surveying, Project Management, M&E Engineering, Building Forensics, H&S/CDM and other specialist services to deliver integrated advice across the property lifecycle.
Your day to day
- Lead and oversee complex fire engineering and building safety commissions across commercial, residential, healthcare and mixed-use assets.
- Act as a senior technical authority, providing clear, practical and commercially aware advice to clients, design teams, contractors, regulators and internal colleagues.
- Take ownership of technically challenging, high-risk and multi-stakeholder projects from proposal stage through to completion.
- Review and sign off technical reports, strategies and assessments, ensuring quality, consistency and a clear Hollis standard across the service.
- Interpret and apply current legislation, guidance and industry standards, including the Building Safety Act, Gateway processes, PAS 9980, FRAEW methodology and UK Building Regulations.
- Support fee proposals, scoping discussions and commercial project management, helping to build strong and sustainable client relationships.
- Mentor and support developing Fire Engineers and Surveyors, sharing knowledge, building confidence and helping others progress in their careers.
- Contribute to service growth through client engagement, business development, innovation and the identification of new opportunities.
- Collaborate freely with other Hollis services to deliver joined-up thinking and unlock more value for clients across the property lifecycle.
- Travel across the region and wider UK as needed for site visits, client meetings, project delivery and business development activity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
