About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering critical technology solutions within a global investment banking environment.

The role is focused on building secure, scalable and production-grade applications using modern Java technologies. You will work across backend services and APIs, contribute to architectural decisions and help ensure applications meet the high security and engineering standards expected within financial services.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable applications using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Build and integrate RESTful APIs and event-driven services.
  • Work with Kafka and messaging technologies to support high-volume distributed systems.
  • Develop against Oracle and SQL databases, with a focus on performance and reliability.
  • Write clean, maintainable and production-ready code.
  • Apply TDD and automated testing throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues and technical defects.
  • Work within Agile development teams and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Maintain high standards around application security and software quality.

Requirements

Security & Code Quality

Security is a key part of the development lifecycle. You will be expected to understand and address vulnerabilities identified through automated security tooling.

Experience With

  • SAST – Static Application Security Testing
  • SCA – Software Composition Analysis
  • SonarQube

  • Dependency and vulnerability management

You should be comfortable investigating security findings, understanding their impact and implementing appropriate fixes while maintaining delivery timelines.

Essential Skills

  • Strong commercial experience with Java 8/11/17+.
  • Strong Spring / Spring Boot experience.
  • Experience building REST APIs and distributed applications.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar messaging/event-streaming technologies.
  • Strong SQL and relational database experience.
  • Experience with TDD and automated testing.
  • Good understanding of secure software development practices.
  • Experience with Git and modern CI/CD development workflows.
  • Experience working within Agile engineering teams.

Nice to have

Desirable Experience

  • Investment banking or financial services experience.
  • Experience working within highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of application security and DevSecOps.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Microservices and distributed systems experience.
  • Experience working with large-scale, high-volume production systems.
