The Vacancy
The RSK Group is seeking an experienced marine environmental professional to join our growing Marine Environmental team, with a particular focus on subsea power cable projects.
This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative and forward-thinking unit within RSK's exciting international projects group, and be part of the UK's #1 Environmental & Sustainability Consultancy! The team have a strong and established portfolio of cable projects and are looking to expand our client offering.
We can offer flexible working arrangements, remote or hybrid. Primary locations are Scotland, Northern England and Bristol; however we welcome applications from across the UK.
What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will bring substantial relevant experience, typically gained over 7-15 years in marine environmental assessment, and will have previously coordinated marine cable (EIA/ESIA or equivalent) environmental assessments.
- You will act as the lead environmental coordinator, providing strategic advice on consenting approaches, leading stakeholder engagement activities, and navigating the complexities of multi-jurisdictional projects.
- You will be forward-thinking, able to manage and update project programmes, and take a proactive approach to identifying and resolving project challenges.
Key Requirements:
- Direct experience of coordinating marine (EIA/ESIA or equivalent) environmental assessments for subsea power cables, interconnectors or major transmission infrastructure.
- Experience of coordinating multiple technical disciplines and integrating their inputs into a relevant Marine Environment Assessment (non statutory EIA/ESIA equivalent).
- Excellent understanding of marine consenting requirements across the UK and the ability to advise on the optimal consenting approaches.
- Experience of working with regulators and statutory consultees and leading stakeholder engagement.
- Experience managing environmental assessment programmes and ensuring project delivery remains on track.
- The ability to identify potential problems early and develop practical solutions.
- Experience of working with developers, engineering teams, cable route designers and specialist environmental consultants.
- A good understanding of the environmental issues associated with subsea cable installation.
- Ideally, experience of multi-jurisdictional projects, where different environmental assessment and consenting regimes need to be accommodated.
- Ideally, experience of marine licences, DCOs, HRA etc.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage directly with senior client representatives and regulators.
- Educated with relevant Marine Environmental degree.
- Marine Masters/PhD and professional accreditation desirable.
- Additional language skills an advantage.
