BakerHicks - Senior or Principal OHL Design Engineer

BakerHicks has grown rapidly in the Transmission & Distribution sector over the last decade, delivering exceptional engineering design to major UK infrastructure projects. We are now looking for an experienced Senior or Principal OHL Design Engineer to join our expanding team.

In this role, you will report to the Associate OHL Engineer and take responsibility for all design elements associated with new build and refurbishment of overhead transmission lines across the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership and lead production of OHL detailed design packages.
  • Ensure compliance of designs with client and national technical standards.
  • Lead team of junior engineers on the production of design packages and support their technical development.
  • Prepare calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
  • Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment, and/or technological methods.
  • Undertake consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
  • Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of Overhead Line works.
  • Manage the delivery of projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets.
  • Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.
  • Production and checking of detailed drawings for the OHL design.
  • Production of wind load cases in accordance with BS-EN 50341 and relevant NNA.
  • Analysis of OHL structures with PLS-Tower.
  • Production of foundation loads.
  • Design and analysis of OHL Foundations.
  • Assist in the tendering process.
  • Preparation of design technical reports and other written documents.
  • Production of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
  • The adherence to and control of documents and drawings in accordance with Baker Hicks management procedures.
  • Design input/output within the designated risk management process.

About You:

  • Proven experience producing all designs, reports, calculations and drawings for OHL projects from 11kV to 400kV.
  • Significant experience in HV OHL design within the UK Transmission & Distribution sector.
  • Strong proficiency in PLS-CADD and PLS-Tower.
  • Experience delivering design packages compliant with UK Transmission Owner specifications.
  • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in appropriate Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent or working towards.
  • Preferable: experience as a CDAE under National Grid SR188 or the ability to meet requirements.
