Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Senior or Principal Planner, you’ll provide expert planning advice to public and private sector clients across a diverse portfolio, including residential, retail, education, and energy. You’ll work across the development lifecycle, from site appraisals and feasibility through to planning applications, appeals, and strategic advice.
With access to Tetra Tech’s multidisciplinary specialists and national network, you’ll broaden your technical experience and contribute to projects of varying scale and complexity across the UK.
Your Impact in this Position
You’ll take ownership of a varied workload, managing multiple projects while delivering high-quality, commercially focused planning advice. You’ll build trusted client relationships, develop your own portfolio of work, and take responsibility for project delivery, budgets, and quality.
Working alongside planners and technical specialists across Tetra Tech, you’ll contribute to complex multidisciplinary proposals, share your expertise, and strengthen your market profile. With a strong pipeline of work and support from an established organization, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and progress your career.

- Technical Planning Expertise – Apply your planning knowledge across site appraisals, development plan representations, applications, appeals, and strategic development advice.
- Project Management – Manage multiple projects confidently, balancing priorities, programmes, budgets, and client expectations.
- Client & Commercial Focus – Build trusted relationships, identify opportunities, and develop your own portfolio of clients and fee-earning work.
- Collaboration & Communication – Work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary technical teams, making complex planning matters clear and accessible.

Training, Qualifications & Experience
You’ll be an RTPI-accredited Town Planner with relevant experience in consultancy, local government, development, or housebuilding. We welcome experienced Senior Planners, as well as talented planners ready to take the next step in their career.
