The Opportunity
Stantec is growing its Clean Water Process Engineering capability across the Midlands, Wales, and South West, with opportunities based in Birmingham, Redditch, Derby, Cardiff, Bristol, or Exeter.
We’re looking for a Senior Principal Process Engineer to provide technical leadership across a growing portfolio of Clean Water projects, helping shape solutions that improve resilience, efficiency, and sustainability.
You’ll Have The Opportunity To
- Lead technical direction across major Clean Water programmes.
- Influence process strategy, optioneering, and design decisions.
- Strengthen our regional Clean Water capability and technical reputation.
- Develop and mentor engineers across our growing teams.
About The Role
You’ll take responsibility for process engineering delivery on Clean Water projects, working across the project lifecycle from optioneering and feasibility through to design and implementation.
Your role will include developing process solutions, undertaking design calculations, preparing technical documentation, and reviewing deliverables to ensure they meet project requirements. You’ll coordinate closely with civil, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines, helping to resolve technical challenges and keep projects moving forward.
You’ll also have regular interaction with clients, contractors, and project managers, giving you the opportunity to build strong professional relationships and develop your understanding of the wider commercial and project environment. Supporting and mentoring developing engineers will also be an important part of your role.

- Influence major treatment and water infrastructure investment decisions.
- Improve the quality and efficiency of Clean Water project delivery.
- Provide technical confidence and assurance across complex programmes.
- Develop the next generation of process engineering leaders.
- Support the continued growth of Stantec’s Clean Water capability across Birmingham, Redditch, Derby, Cardiff, Bristol, and Exeter.
About You
Essential
- Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional institution.
- Significant experience in Clean Water process engineering within the UK water sector.
- Extensive technical experience across water treatment processes, process design, optimisation, and/or strategic water infrastructure.
- Proven experience providing technical leadership and assurance on complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong understanding of UK water industry standards, regulations, and best practice.
- Proven ability to provide authoritative technical advice and influence project and design decisions.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing engineers and technical teams.

Desirable
- Experience across water treatment works, water resources, strategic supply, or asset improvement programmes.
- Experience developing process strategies, optioneering studies, or innovative treatment solutions.
- Experience contributing to bids, frameworks, and business development activities.
- Experience developing technical standards, specifications, or design approaches.
- Strong understanding of emerging Clean Water challenges, including water scarcity, climate resilience, and changing water quality requirements.
- Experience building strong relationships with senior stakeholders and supporting the development of high-performing technical teams.
