The Opportunity

The water sector is evolving rapidly, with increasing investment in resilient infrastructure, treatment performance, environmental improvement, and long-term sustainability. At Stantec, our Process Engineering teams are helping clients respond to these challenges by delivering innovative engineering solutions across a diverse range of UK water programmes.

We’re looking for a Senior Principal Process Engineer to join our growing teams in London, High Wycombe, Reading, Brighton, Southampton, or Cambridge. This is an opportunity to take a senior leadership role within our Process Engineering community, providing strategic technical direction across complex projects while building trusted relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to shape technical strategy, develop future engineering leaders, and contribute to the continued growth of our Process Engineering capability, working on projects that have a real impact on communities and the environment.

About The Role

As a Senior Principal Process Engineer, you’ll provide senior technical and strategic leadership across water and wastewater projects, taking responsibility for technical quality, engineering governance, and the development of robust solutions.

You Will

  • Provide senior technical leadership across complex water and wastewater projects and programmes.
  • Act as a technical authority, providing expert advice, challenge, and assurance across projects.
  • Lead and assure process designs, calculations, mass balances, hydraulic assessments, treatment evaluations, and technical specifications.
  • Influence engineering strategy from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Provide technical governance, identifying engineering risks and ensuring best practice and appropriate standards are applied.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, acting as a strategic technical adviser.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and ensure effective integration with civil, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and environmental disciplines.
  • Contribute to investment strategies, bids, frameworks, and business development opportunities across the UK water sector.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improved ways of working.
  • Mentor and develop senior engineers and future technical leaders, strengthening the wider Process Engineering community.

YOUR IMPACT

Your leadership will help water companies deliver more resilient, efficient, and environmentally responsible infrastructure across the UK. You’ll influence solutions to complex challenges across treatment performance, environmental standards, asset resilience, and long-term investment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
