Arden White Aerospace and Aviation Recruitment are currently working with a leading global engineering organisation, recruiting for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced software engineering professional to take a senior technical leadership role, developing advanced embedded software for complex, safety critical engineering applications. You will play a key role in defining software architecture, influencing technical strategy and leading the development of high integrity software solutions used within highly regulated environments.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help deliver robust, reliable software while mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead the software architecture and technical direction for complex embedded software projects.
- Design, develop and maintain real time embedded software using C/C++.
- Develop software for advanced control and actuation systems.
- Work closely with systems, hardware and verification engineers to ensure successful software integration.
- Ensure software is developed in accordance with DO-178C and other applicable safety critical standards.
- Lead software verification, validation and integration activities.
- Drive engineering best practice throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to software engineering teams.
- Participate in technical reviews and support key engineering decisions.
- Contribute to the delivery of highly reliable, mission critical software solutions.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant commercial experience developing embedded software using C/C++.
- Strong background in real time embedded systems.
- Proven experience defining software architecture and technical strategy.
- Experience developing software within safety critical or highly regulated engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of DO-178C and the software certification lifecycle.
- Experience designing deterministic and fault tolerant software systems.
- Previous technical leadership, mentoring or engineering management experience.
- Strong knowledge of software verification and validation methodologies.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with model based development using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Knowledge of ARINC standards or MIL-STD communication protocols.
- Experience working on advanced control systems, embedded electronics or high integrity engineering applications.
