Following the appointment of a new Head of Urban Design, Blue Diamond Recruitment is proud to continue supporting our client with the appointment of a Senior or Principal Urban Designer as they continue to invest in the growth of its newly established Urban Design function.
This is an exciting opportunity to join at an early stage in the development of the Urban Design service, working closely with the new Head of Urban Design and their established planning team.
The successful individual will contribute to a varied portfolio of residential and strategic land projects, working with land promoters, house builders, and developers across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside the Head of Urban Design, responsibilities will include:
- Preparing site appraisals and development capacity studies.
- Producing vision documents and development frameworks.
- Preparing strategic and residential-led masterplans.
- Developing concept layouts and illustrative schemes.
- Preparing Design Codes, parameter plans, and development principles.
- Contributing to placemaking strategies.
- Preparing and contributing to Design and Access Statements.
- Providing design input into Local Plan promotions and planning applications.
- Working collaboratively with the wider planning team and external consultants.
- Supporting projects from initial concept and feasibility through the planning process.
- Liaising directly with clients, including land promoters, developers, and house builders.
- Supporting the continued development and growth of the Urban Design service.

Candidate Profile
The successful candidate is likely to have:
- A degree or relevant qualification in Urban Design, Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience within an urban design, architectural, planning, or multidisciplinary consultancy environment.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating residential and/or mixed-use masterplanning experience.
- Good knowledge of the UK planning system, design policy, and placemaking principles.
- Experience producing masterplans, concept layouts, and supporting design documentation.
- Strong design, presentation, and communication skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience working with land promoters, house builders, or residential developers would be particularly advantageous.
