Senior Private Client Solicitor

5–10 Years’ PQE | London
£75,000 - £95,000 depending on experience

We are working with an established regional Legal 500 law firm seeking an experienced Private Client Solicitor to join its London-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with between five and ten years’ PQE to handle sophisticated private client work within a respected multidisciplinary practice. The role offers considerable autonomy, direct client contact and the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of the department.

The Role

You will manage a varied caseload for individuals, families, business owners, trustees and high-net-worth clients.

The work will include:

  • Drafting simple and complex wills
  • Estate and succession planning
  • Inheritance Tax planning
  • Administration of taxable and non-taxable estates
  • High-value and complex probate matters
  • Creation, administration and taxation of trusts
  • Lifetime gifting and wealth structuring
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Court of Protection and mental-capacity matters
  • Capital Gains Tax and Income Tax considerations
  • Cross-border estates and internationally connected clients
  • Advising executors, trustees, attorneys and beneficiaries
  • Contentious issues arising during estate administration, working alongside dispute-resolution colleagues where appropriate

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing an independent caseload of private client matters from initial instruction through to conclusion
  • Advising clients on wills, estate planning, trusts, probate and tax considerations
  • Administering estates of varying value and complexity
  • Preparing probate applications, estate accounts and inheritance tax documentation
  • Drafting wills, trusts, deeds, powers of attorney and associated legal documents
  • Advising executors, trustees and beneficiaries on their responsibilities and available options
  • Identifying potential tax, succession and capacity issues and providing clear, practical advice
  • Developing trusted, long-term relationships with clients and their families
  • Working with accountants, financial advisers, wealth managers, tax specialists and other professional contacts
  • Collaborating with colleagues across property, corporate, litigation and family law
  • Supervising and supporting junior solicitors, trainees and paralegals where appropriate
  • Maintaining accurate files and meeting regulatory, compliance and risk-management requirements
  • Managing time recording, billing and financial performance against agreed targets
  • Supporting business development, networking and the growth of professional referral relationships
  • Contributing to articles, seminars, client updates and departmental marketing initiatives

About You

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with between five and ten years’ PQE
  • Strong experience in non-contentious private client law
  • Confident managing an independent caseload of wills, probate, trusts and estate-planning matters
  • Experience handling high-value or complex estates
  • Sound understanding of inheritance tax and the tax considerations affecting trusts and estates
  • Strong technical drafting and analytical skills
  • Excellent client-care and relationship-management abilities
  • Comfortable advising clients on sensitive and personally significant matters
  • Commercially aware with a good understanding of billing and file profitability
  • Able to supervise and support junior colleagues
  • Interested in business development and building relationships with professional referrers
  • STEP membership or progress towards STEP accreditation would be advantageous but is not essential
