Senior Process Engineer

Route into Engineering Leadership

Location: Coventry

Salary: £55-60k

Are you a strong machining engineer who wants to move into a lead engineering role?

We’re recruiting for a well-established precision engineering business that is entering a significant period of growth, with major multi-year customer programmes creating a substantial pipeline of engineering work.

They now want someone who can initially take ownership of complex machining processes and new product introduction, but who also has the ambition and capability to develop into a lead engineering / management role as the workload and engineering function grows.

You’ll be working on complex machined castings for major OEM customers, taking projects from drawing through process design, prove-out, customer approval and stable production.

Could this be your next step?

You may currently be a:

  • Senior Process Engineer
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • CNC Programmer
  • Production Engineer
  • NPI Engineer
  • Applications Engineer

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What matters more than your title is that you understand the complete machining process.

You should be able to look at a drawing and work out:

  • Which machine should we use?
  • What is the best operation sequence?
  • What tooling and workholding is required?
  • How do we measure and control the process?
  • How do we achieve the required quality, cycle time and production volumes?

The business is looking for someone with strong practical machining knowledge who can take real ownership of difficult engineering work.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take responsibility for:

  • Designing complete machining processes from engineering drawings
  • Selecting machines, tooling, workholding and gauging
  • Supporting 5-axis and twin-spindle machining where appropriate
  • Taking new machining projects through customer approval into production
  • Working closely with programmers, setters, operators and quality teams
  • Troubleshooting machining and dimensional problems on the shop floor
  • Improving cycle times, scrap levels and process consistency
  • Supporting manufacturability and technical discussions with customers

Where could it lead?

With significant multi-year customer work coming through the business, the engineering requirement is expected to grow.

The successful person will have the opportunity to broaden beyond pure process engineering into project leadership, customer responsibility and ultimately wider engineering management responsibility.

So if you’re technically strong but feel like you’ve hit a ceiling in your current position, this could give you the opportunity to become the person leading the engineering rather than simply delivering one part of it.

Interested?

Send me, Michelle Fletcher, your CV, and I’ll talk you through the role, the projects and where it could lead.
