About the Role
The UK water sector is entering a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates the growth of its Water Business in the UK, we are building a high-performing Process Engineering team to help shape this next chapter.
We are inviting applicants who want to play a meaningful role in delivering major water and wastewater programmes in the UK municipal and industrial sectors. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you will contribute to technically robust, sustainable and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.
This is a rare opportunity to join at a key stage of our UK growth journey, helping to establish, shape and expand a process engineering capability built on Egis’ global infrastructure expertise and long-term commitment to the sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead defined process design tasks or work packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design.
- Prepare, check and coordinate process deliverables including:
- Calculations
- Mass balances
- PFDs
- P&IDs
- Basis of design reports
- Specifications
- Datasheets
- Schedules
- Take ownership of assigned process packages, managing:
- Technical quality
- Interfaces
- Scope
- Budget
- Programme
- Change
- Lead site surveys, data reviews, and technical discussions with:
- Clients
- Operators
- Suppliers
- Contractors
- Develop treatment process options and support selection of efficient, robust and operable solutions.
- Coordinate process interfaces with Mechanical, EICA, civil/structural, architectural, MEP and construction teams.
- Support:
- HAZOP
- SWIFT
- DSEAR
- HAC/HAP
- CDM/safety-by-design reviews
- Commissioning strategies
- Performance testing
- Apply process modelling, simulation, spreadsheets and data analysis to improve design quality and support evidence-based decisions.
- Review supplier/contractor submissions, respond to technical queries and support construction, commissioning and handover where required.
- Mentor Engineers and Graduates and contribute to:
- Process standards
- Templates
- Delivery improvements

Requirements
Minimum Requirements
-
BEng/MEng or equivalent in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Process Engineering
- Closely related discipline
-
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or significant CEng-level experience while actively progressing towards chartership.
-
Typically 6+ years’ relevant process design experience.
-
Background must be from water, wastewater and/or biosolids/sludge treatment design.

Proven ability to deliver process design packages within multidisciplinary projects.

Strong practical experience preparing and checking:
- Process calculations
- Mass balances
- PFDs
- P&IDs
- Basis of design reports
- Specifications
- Technical documentation

Working knowledge of:
- UK water industry standards
- CDM 2015
- Process safety
- Safety-by-design
- Relevant regulatory requirements

Experience using process modelling/simulation, advanced spreadsheets, or data-led design methods to support treatment design.

Good commercial awareness and ability to deliver to agreed:
- Scope
- Budget
- Programme

Strong communication skills, including ability to:
- Lead technical discussions
- Present recommendations clearly

- Practical experience using:

- SUMO
- Dynamizu
- Similar water/wastewater process simulation packages
- Experience with:
- AMP8
- WINEP
- SROs
- D&B
- Framework, alliance or major capital delivery environments
- Experience in:
- Nutrient removal
- Sludge/bioresources
- Water reuse
- Process optimisation
- Chemical dosing
- Energy recovery
- Advanced treatment
- Low-carbon design
- Experience supporting:
- Commissioning
- Performance testing
- HAZOPs
- SWIFT reviews
- Technical assurance reviews
- Experience mentoring junior staff and improving:
- Process workflows
- Templates
- Technical standards
