Job Description
### About the Role
The UK water sector is undergoing a period of unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis accelerates Water Business growth in the UK, we’re forming a high-performing Process Engineering team to guide this next phase.
We’re seeking applicants who want to contribute meaningfully to major water and wastewater programmes in the municipal and industrial sectors. Within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you’ll design technically robust, sustainable, and innovative treatment solutions across nationally significant projects.
This is a unique opportunity to join at a critical stage of Egis UK’s growth, establishing and expanding our process engineering team—rooted in global infrastructure expertise and a long-term commitment to the sector.
### Key Responsibilities
- Lead defined process design tasks or work packages across feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline, and detailed design.
- Prepare, check, and coordinate process deliverables, including:
- Calculations & mass balances
- PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams)
- P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams)
- Basis of design reports
- Specifications, datasheets, and schedules
- Own assigned process packages, managing:
- Technical quality
- Interfaces, scope
- Budget, programme, and change management
- Lead site surveys, conduct data reviews, and assess process capacity, while facilitating technical discussions with:
- Clients, operators, suppliers, contractors
- Develop treatment process options and guide solution selection—prioritising efficiency, robustness, and operability.
- Coordinate process interfaces with:
- Mechanical, EICA (Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation), civil/structural, architectural, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), and construction teams
- Support HAZOP, SWIFT, DSEAR, HAC/HAP, and CDM/safety-by-design reviews, as well as:
- Commissioning strategies
- Performance testing
- Apply process modelling, simulation, spreadsheets, and data analysis to improve design and data-driven decision-making.
- Review supplier/contractor submissions, address technical queries, and assist with:
- Construction, commissioning, and handover (where required)
- Mentor Engineers and Graduates, while contributing to:
- Process standards, templates, and delivery improvements

### Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Degree: BEng/MEng or equivalent in:
- Chemical Engineering
- Process Engineering
- Related discipline
- Engineering Charters: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status OR significant CEng-equivalent experience while actively pursuing chartership.
- Experience: Typically 6+ years in relevant process design.
- Sector Focus: Background must be in:
- Water, wastewater, or biosolids/sludge treatment design.
- Delivery: Proven ability to lead process design packages in multidisciplinary projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in preparing and checking:
- Process calculations
- Mass balances
- PFDs, P&IDs, basis of design reports
- Specifications, datasheets
- Strong expertise in preparing and checking:
- Regulatory Knowledge: Working understanding of:
- UK water industry standards
- CDM 2015
- Process safety & safety-by-design
- Software/Agile Tools:
- Process modelling/simulation
- Advanced spreadsheets
- Data-led design methods for treatment solutions
- Commercial Acumen:
- Ability to deliver scope, budget, and programme agreements.
- Communication:
- Technical discussions
- Clear recommendations and presentations.
Desirable Skills / Knowledge
- Simulation Tools: Practical experience with:
- BioWin, SUMO, Dynamizu (or similar water/wastewater simulation packages)
- Sector Experience:
- AMP8, WINEP, SROs, D&B frameworks, alliances, or major capital delivery environments
- Specialist Knowledge:
- Nutrient removal
- Sludge/bioresources
- Water reuse
- Process optimisation
- Chemical dosing, energy recovery, advanced treatment
- Low-carbon design
- Process Assurance:
- Commissioning, performance testing, HAZOPs, SWIFT reviews, or technical assurance
- Leadership:
- Mentoring junior staff
- Improving process workflows, templates, and technical standards
- Right to Work: Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
