About the Role

Whether you’re talking about length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, amount or the brightness of light, the National Physical Laboratory sets the standards by which these things are all measured.

Every department has their own set of unique needs. As their Senior Administrator, you’ll get to understand exactly what those needs are and then help everything run as smoothly as possible. This is an ideal opportunity to start your career with us. Who knows where you’ll end up? At NPL, we touch ordinary lives in extraordinary ways and you could too.

We work in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working (minimum two days onsite in Teddington).

You’ll be responsible for a vast array of administrative roles that will ensure your department operates efficiently. Handling enquiries, you’ll either resolve them yourself or pass the enquiry on to the relevant person. Perhaps someone needs some data, information or a report. If they do, you’ll know where to locate it and circulate it as needed. You’ll also be the one who takes responsibility for updating and maintaining your department’s records, systems and databases. You’ll even organise and manage department activities and supplies. Whatever is asked of you, you’ll give it your all. And whilst you’ll follow the various procedures and processes in place, if you see something that can improved upon, we’ll expect you to share your thoughts. At NPL, we embrace change for the better.

You’ll also get to know each department’s unique needs and set up the right levels of administrative support to deliver on them. As an experienced administrator, it’s the chance to learn more about our business and where it could take you. Being the first point of contact you’ll be on hand to ensure the administration of the department is delivered smoothly and to the highest standard. You’ll coordinate the team’s duties to play to their strengths, whilst ensuring they deliver a high-level of customer service at all times. Taking a particular interest in the management’s needs, you’ll help prepare and circulate documents, as well as conduct research. Finally, you’ll also take responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of the systems and databases – ensuring they are compliant and accurate.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
