Senior Buyer-Procurement (Maternity Leave Cover)
Belcan Workforce Solutions is recruiting for a Senior Buyer-Procurement (Maternity Leave Cover) to join a leading project environment supporting major programmes across the Nuclear, Defence, Power, and Life Sciences sectors. This 12-month opportunity offers the chance to make a genuine impact across complex engineering and construction projects while collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders. The role is available on either a contract or fixed-term basis, operates on a hybrid working model with two days per week in the office, and can be based in Manchester, London, or Motherwell. This assignment has been assessed as Inside IR35.
As Senior Buyer-Procurement (Maternity Leave Cover), you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for professional services, supporting both project delivery and bid activities. You will draft, negotiate, and administer contracts, develop supplier relationships, provide market and commercial insight, and ensure governance and compliance standards are maintained throughout the procurement process. The role requires confidence in reviewing engineering scopes of work, identifying procurement risks, and working closely with multidisciplinary project teams to achieve successful project outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
