Job Title: Consumer Journalist
We are looking for an excellent journalist with a passion for consumer stories. The successful candidate will be able to research and produce stories of interest and distinction, working primarily with the Consumer Editor. They will have experience of producing high quality content for all platforms with a track record of driving exclusive and distinctive stories in line with the broader ITV News agenda.
Key Responsibilities:
- To drive and champion Consumer issues and investigations, spotting stories and trends whilst delivering exclusive and distinctive content
- To work closely with the Consumer Editor to break exclusive lines, original stories and investigations, and produce creative content across all ITV News platforms
- To produce content for all platforms including TV, Social Media platforms, the ITV News website and ITVX
- Work on location to find the best angles/elements for ITV News coverage
- To write scripts and produce graphics when required
- To ensure location material is delivered safely and in good time for transmission
- To run an efficient, forward planning diary and work closely with the Head of UK News and Home Planning team to best deliver all content
- Research stories for the best elements, lines and angles
- Ensure that all work is within the various legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to all news, especially Consumer stories
- To drive distinctive digital coverage of the brief

Key Requirements:
- Good understanding of the ITV News agenda and its multi-platform audiences
- A track record of originating and delivering original lines and stories
- A proven ability to use social and digital media to drive stories and content
- Particular interest in all types of Consumer news
- High level of technical ability in editing and the production of TV packages and digital content
- Excellent research skills
- The successful candidate would be able to optimise consumer stories across all of ITV News' digital platforms.
- They will have a keen understanding of digital and multi-platform journalism, especially vertical video, and be able to optimise consumer stories for social audiences.
- The ability to edit vertical video content is desired, as well as an awareness of existing and emerging social platforms and trends.
- Confidence to travel at short notice and operate unsupervised away from base
- Concise writing style with flair, accuracy and focus
- Rich pool of ideas for stories, angles and treatments, primarily in the Consumer brief
- A track record of creative reporting and producing
- Good communicator and team player with a positive attitude
- Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and ITN compliance
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
- Tenacity, attention to detail, organisation, enthusiasm and energy
- An understanding and awareness of ITV News’ commitment to diversity in its coverage
- An understanding and awareness of ITV News digital strategy
