About the Role
We are looking for an excellent journalist with a passion for sports stories. The successful candidate will be able to research and produce stories of interest and distinction, working primarily with the Sports Editor. They will have experience of producing high quality content for all platforms with a track record of driving exclusive and distinctive stories in line with the broader ITV News agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce packages to the highest standard, identifying the best stories and best news lines each day
- Plan sports coverage in line with ITV News agenda requirements
- Originate and deliver exclusive lines and stories on any area of sports news and sporting achievement
- Deliver compelling elements for TV packages, social media content, website articles and be able to optimise all sports stories for a variety of digital platforms
- Curate and publish sports material on digital platforms
- Champion sports stories across the newsroom and support the planning of coverage of weekend sporting events as well as major sporting championships

Key Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of the sports agenda
- Good understanding of the ITV News ethos and agenda
- High level of technical ability in editing and production of TV packages, social media content and website articles
- Excellent research skills
- Concise writing style with flair, accuracy, and focus
- Rich pool of ideas for stories, angles, and treatments
- A keen understanding of digital and multi-platform journalism, especially vertical video, and be able to optimise sport stories for social audiences
- The ability to edit vertical video content is desired, as well as an awareness of existing and emerging social platforms and trends
- A track record of originating and delivering original lines and stories
- Good communicator and team player, with a positive attitude
- Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
- Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
- Recognition of the importance of cross-company co-operation
