Company Description

We’re Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.

We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.

Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.

If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.

With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

About the Role

We empower businesses in the digital economy, and we know that every payment counts. The Payment Performance pillar’s mission at Checkout.com is to manage and optimise our merchants' payment flow, in order to achieve optimal conversion, compliance, and cost.

Some of our biggest levers for performance come from direct relationships with the banks that issue our shoppers' cards. The Issuer Partnerships team works directly with issuing banks to raise performance for our merchants: resolving acceptance-rate issues that originate at the bank level through various types of collaborations, from investigations to proactive data sharing.

As a Product Engineer on the team, you will build the foundational layer to productize and scale this value stream. You will design, build, and ship agentic workflows, APIs, and internal tools for the team to drive our merchants and issuers performance proactively – as well as the data products we deliver to issuing banks directly. You will own what you build from prototype to production. You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, and engineers across Payment Performance, and collaborate regularly with other product teams and with the relationship managers who own our issuer partnerships.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Design, build, and ship the tools and AI-assisted workflows that transform how the team operates day to day — automating the resolution of issuer-related performance issues, and shifting detection from reactive to proactive.
  • Build the APIs and data services that power our partnerships with issuing banks, including data-sharing programmes and data products we increasingly offer issuers directly.
  • Build the monitoring and measurement that make the team's impact and programme performance visible and reliable, across merchants, countries, and banks.
  • Build, deploy, measure, and iterate on LLM-based applications (e.g., agents, knowledge extraction, automation solutions) end to end, with a focus on adoption and real-world impact.
  • Partner with a data scientist and with our Fraud, Platform, and Gateway teams to deliver and scale what you build, helping move the team's operations toward greater autonomy over time.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong software engineering skills — building and integrating APIs and services and taking them from prototype to production.
  • Proficiency in Python & SQL, with a strong understanding of data and software development principles in either a backend or full stack environment.
  • Someone who is AI proficient, you will be hungry to embrace what the latest technology has to offer to enhance yours and your teams productivity.
  • Great communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience working in agile environments and delivering high-quality code within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience: A track record of building and shipping software or internal tools, ideally including data-heavy products, automation, or AI applications.
