About the role
Senior Product Engineer is where your influence starts to outlive the project you're on.
As a Senior Product Engineer you will own a significant part of the platform across multiple projects and multiple months, you set the patterns other engineers build on inside it, and you're trusted to make calls whose consequences land long after the work has shipped.
You are still hands-on. This is not a step away from the code, it's a step towards the problems where getting the code right matters most. You'll carry some of the technically hardest work, you'll be a trusted reviewer of other people's designs rather than only their code, and you'll be the person the team brings a problem to before it becomes an incident.
You'll also be visible outside engineering. Senior Product Engineers are trusted alone in front of customers, with support in place for where this is a new aspect of your role, contribute to scoping and feasibility conversations, and bring problems to the roadmap rather than waiting for the roadmap to bring you work.
What you'll be doing
Build and ship
- Stay hands-on, writing and reviewing meaningful code every week
- Carry some of the work that's technically hardest, the parts where getting it wrong is expensive to unwind
- Break large, ambiguous problems into work other engineers can pick up and run with
- Hold a thread across more than one project cycle so that nobody else has to
- Improve how the team ships, not only what you ship

Technical judgement
- Own the architecture for a significant area of the platform, and own the consequences of it over time
- Set the patterns others build on inside that area, covering data modelling, integration boundaries, tenancy and security
- Be a trusted reviewer of other people's designs, not only their code
- Make decisions on incomplete information, and be explicit about what would change your mind
- Say no to an approach, or to a piece of work, with a reason people accept
- Weigh technical debt across an area rather than a project, and put a credible plan behind it
Quality
- Design the systems that make quality repeatable, covering test strategy, CI, observability and release safety, rather than only testing your own work well
- Set the quality bar for your area and make it enforceable rather than aspirational
- Lead incident response, and drive the preventive change rather than stopping at the fix
- Make it easier for the rest of the team to do the right thing than the wrong thing
Customers and commercial
- Be trusted alone in front of customers
- Contribute to pre-sales, scoping and feasibility conversations, and give an honest read on risk, cost and timing
- Trade scope against value, and be willing to argue for less
- Translate commercial pressure into technical choices the team can actually act on
Ideas and initiative
- Set direction that others build on, with more than one idea landed and results you can point at
- Influence the roadmap by bringing problems to it, with evidence
- Raise the structural problems nobody has noticed yet, the ones that aren't on anyone's ticket
- Know when an idea isn't worth pursuing, and say so early
Team and leadership
- Multiply other engineers, through mentoring, review and the way you explain your reasoning
- Be a default reviewer, and the person people take a problem to
- Deputise for the Lead Product Engineer when needed
- Contribute to hiring, interviewing and assessment
- Hold the technical bar in reviews, kindly and consistently
What we're looking for
- Indicatively four or more years building and shipping production software, with at least one sustained period of ownership over an area rather than a project
- Evidence of architectural decisions you made in production systems, and of living with the consequences
- A track record of making other engineers better, and the ability to say specifically how
- Comfort operating with incomplete information in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift
- Salesforce ecosystem capability (LWC, Apex, platform security) and the ability to work across Salesforce and third-party integrations
- Experience with serverless architecture on AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3)
- Genuine depth with AI-assisted development tooling, including knowing where it isn't dependable and how to verify what it produces
- Customer-facing confidence, and real interest in the commercial side of what we build
- Evidence of having improved the systems around the work, such as testing, CI or observability, not only the work itself

Nice to have
- Familiarity with vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) frameworks
- Experience with containerised applications and CI/CD pipelines
- Node.js experience
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, ML Speciality)

Our process
We break it up into three stages:
- Initial screening chat with People Manager on Google Meet
- Live technical exercise with our Director of Product Engineering on Google Meet, giving you the chance to showcase your creativity and decision-making in real time, including a technical and product discussion
- An in-person visit to our Liverpool office, covering a past experience interview with the Director of Product Engineering, and an informal chat with a couple of people from our Engineering team
Background checks
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment, we'll carry out standard background checks, including a DBS check. These help ensure there are no ongoing criminal proceedings and support the prevention of fraud and other forms of serious misconduct.
