Senior Product Engineer
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Engineer based in the United Kingdom.
This is a senior full-stack product engineering role focused on building reliable, production-grade web software from end to end.
You’ll work in a small, highly accountable engineering pod alongside product and domain experts.
The role spans frontend, backend, databases, cloud infrastructure, testing, and production operations.
You’ll turn ambiguous requirements into clear, testable solutions and own features through deployment and monitoring.
AI-assisted development, code review, and QA are embedded into the engineering workflow, enabling faster and higher-quality delivery.
The environment values ownership, strong technical judgment, documentation, collaboration, and measurable execution.
It’s an opportunity to make a direct product impact while growing toward greater technical or delivery leadership.
Accountabilities
- Own product features end to end, from clarifying ambiguous requirements and defining acceptance criteria through development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
- Collaborate closely with product owners and domain experts to translate business and customer needs into technically sound, buildable solutions.
- Develop across the full stack, working with React and TypeScript/Node.js on the frontend and services layer, PostgreSQL for data, and event-driven systems running on AWS.
- Build reliable, maintainable software using clean engineering practices and contribute to architectural and implementation decisions across the product.
- Write and maintain automated tests, including unit tests and Playwright end-to-end tests, as an integral part of the development lifecycle.
- Leverage AI coding agents, AI-assisted code review, and AI-driven QA tools as core components of the engineering workflow to increase development velocity and quality.
- Operate and support the software you build, including monitoring, incident follow-through, troubleshooting, and implementing corrective improvements.
- Document technical decisions, acceptance criteria, estimates, and changes in direction so that teammates can understand the reasoning behind implementation choices.
- Take responsibility for delivery commitments, proactively identifying risks and helping ensure features progress predictably from concept to production.
- Contribute to a collaborative pod environment while providing technical leadership through ownership, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience building and shipping production web software, with strong experience across both frontend and backend development.
- Demonstrated experience delivering production features and owning releases from requirements through deployment and ongoing operation.
- Strong proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js, React, or comparable technologies, with the ability to work effectively across the full stack.
- Solid experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL or an equivalent technology, including sound data modeling and database development practices.
- Professional experience with AWS or a comparable cloud platform and familiarity with event-driven or distributed backend architectures.
- Strong testing discipline, including experience writing unit tests and end-to-end tests with tools such as Playwright.
- Practical experience using AI coding tools and AI-assisted development workflows as part of day-to-day engineering work.
- Ability to work effectively in complex or regulated domains; experience in tax, accounting, fintech, legal, or another highly regulated environment is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of identifying delivery risks and resolving technical challenges independently.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with product, engineering, and domain specialists.
- Strong documentation habits, including the ability to clearly record technical decisions, acceptance criteria, estimates, and implementation rationale.
- Comfortable working in a highly autonomous environment where engineers are expected to improve requirements rather than simply execute predefined tickets.
- Willingness to work beyond a single technical layer and contribute across frontend, backend, data, testing, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with technologies such as Node.js 20, Fastify, Express, React 18, module federation, PostgreSQL/Aurora, AWS Lambda, SQS, S3, ECS, and event-driven distributed processing is advantageous.
