Senior Product Manager, APIs
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Manager, APIs based in United Kingdom.
This is a fully remote senior individual contributor role for a technically strong product leader who thrives at the intersection of product, engineering, and customer experience. You will own an API-focused product area end to end, from strategy and architecture to adoption and long-term impact. Working closely with engineering leads and staff engineers, you will contribute directly to technical direction and use hands-on prototyping to solve complex problems. The role offers substantial autonomy and the opportunity to influence products that support global employment and payroll operations. You will work in a highly distributed, asynchronous environment where thoughtful documentation, decisive action, and strong collaboration are essential. It is an ideal opportunity for a product manager who enjoys turning complicated operational challenges into reliable, intuitive products.
Accountabilities
- Own the product area end to end, including product strategy, roadmap, delivery, adoption, hypercare, and ongoing customer and internal-team experience.
- Partner as a peer with Engineering Leads and Staff Engineers on architecture, technical direction, design quality, and implementation decisions.
- Form independent technical opinions and actively contribute to design reviews, using prototypes and hands-on experimentation to validate assumptions and resolve open questions.
- Design and maintain high-quality API products, including contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, integration patterns, and developer experience.
- Work directly with operational specialists and subject-matter experts to understand real workflows, identify root causes, and prioritize the problems that create the greatest impact.
- Collaborate with payroll, tax, operations, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into scalable product solutions.
- Monitor product adoption and outcomes beyond launch, ensuring that solutions continue to deliver value months after release.
- Document product decisions, technical reasoning, requirements, and proposals clearly through written specifications, recorded walkthroughs, and other asynchronous communication.
- Use AI-native development tools, including Cursor and/or Claude Code, to autonomously prototype, debug, and ship functional code where appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Experience owning API-first products, including API contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, integrations, and developer experience.
- Professional experience in payroll, HR, benefits, fintech, or another domain involving complex operational or financial workflows is highly valuable.
- Strong strategic and tactical judgment, with the ability to determine what to prioritize while maintaining appropriate scope and execution focus.
