Senior Product Manager, Account-to-Account Payments

Own Open Banking, VRP, and Direct Debit at one of the most exciting payments companies in the UK.

London (hybrid)

  • Full-time
  • Reporting to the CTO
  • Competitive base of £80,000 to £90,000 + plus bonus and share options

The 30-second version

We are a fast-scaling, FCA-authorised UK payments platform built for recurring commerce. We are hiring a Senior Product Manager to own our account-to-account portfolio: Open Banking payments, Variable Recurring Payments, and Direct Debit. You will take VRPs from pilot to a real product, keep Direct Debit performing at scale, and shape what our e-money permissions unlock next. You need at least five years in product management, hands-on experience with UK account-to-account payments, and the right to work in the UK. This is a rare seat at the centre of the biggest shift in UK payments in a decade.

Who we are

We are a next-generation payments platform for recurring commerce, and we are growing fast. Banks, lenders and subscription businesses plug into us once and collect across cards, Direct Debit, Pay by Bank and Variable Recurring Payments through a single integration.

Here is why this is a seat worth taking:

  • We are at the front of the biggest change in UK payments. We are one of a very small group of providers active in both commercial VRP and sweeping VRP as the country builds the next generation of open banking rails, with a government-backed industry initiative live right now.
  • We are backed and we are scaling. We are privately funded, part of a payments group that has served more than 500 banks and credit providers since 2009, and we have grown revenue strongly for three years running.
  • We are regulated and serious. FCA-authorised, working to Bacs scheme rules, Open Banking standards and the safeguarding obligations that come with holding customer funds.
  • We are the right size. Small enough that you own real surface area from day one, large enough that what you ship reaches serious volume.

If you want to help write the rules of a payment method while the market is still forming, rather than tune someone else's finished product, this is the place.

Why this role matters

Account-to-account is the most interesting problem in UK payments right now, and this role sits dead centre of it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The three parts of the portfolio are at very different stages, and choosing what comes first is the heart of the job. Variable Recurring Payments are moving from pilot into a market that does not yet exist at scale. Direct Debit is established, moves serious volume, and has to keep performing. E-money is as much a regulatory build as a product one, and it opens up what we can offer next. You decide the sequence, and you defend it.

You will report to the Chief Technology Officer, who owns product and engineering, and you will have the room to make calls that actually ship.

What you'll own

  • Strategy and roadmap across collections and e-money. Frame the hard problems clearly, make explicit calls on sequencing, and stay ahead of scheme and regulatory change, from the commercial VRP rollout to the direction of PSD3.
  • Open Banking and VRPs from pilot to product. Decide which merchant segments go first, prove demand and willingness to pay before we build, and treat completion through the bank authorisation journey as a product problem in its own right. Own the metrics that matter: payment completion rate, consent activation and reuse, and pilot to live conversion.
  • Direct Debit performance end to end. From mandate setup to cutting failed payments and revenue leakage, dig into the data to find return-reason clusters and per-bank failure patterns, and own how failed collections are recovered before they turn into churn.
  • E-money. Define what our permissions unlock commercially, own the product side of account structure, reconciliation and safeguarding, and make the call on what we build first.
  • Partners and standards. Work with sponsor banks, indirect access providers, Open Banking providers and Pay.UK, and act as the business's subject matter expert for account-to-account payments.

What's in it for you

  • A real portfolio to own, reporting straight to the CTO, in a company small enough for your decisions to land.
  • A front-row seat as a whole payment category gets built, with national scale ahead of it.
  • A fast, senior environment with the backing and the regulatory footing to go big.
  • Hybrid working from our London office, with a team that moves quickly and takes payments seriously.
  • Competitive base of £80,000 to £90,000, plus bonus, share options and benefits. Add the real band here.

This is a mid-to-senior role in UK account-to-account payments. To keep this fair and quick for everyone, we only take forward applications that meet all four of the following:

  • You have the right to work in the UK. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
  • You are UK-based and within reach of our London office for hybrid working.
  • You have shipped account-to-account payment products in the UK market, in at least one of Open Banking payment initiation, Variable Recurring Payments, or Direct Debit under Bacs. We need you to have built and run these in production, not learned them in theory.
  • You have at least five years in product management, with real depth in at least one of those UK A2A areas.

If one of these is not you, this will not be the right role. If all four are you, we would love to hear from you.

What you must have

  • The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship, and a UK base within reach of our London office.
  • At least five years in product management, with a track record of shipping, not just owning a backlog.
  • Hands-on UK account-to-account payments experience in at least one of Open Banking payment initiation, Variable Recurring Payments (UKPI or sweeping), or Bacs Direct Debit. Depth in one beats a light pass across all.
  • Experience working to a scheme rulebook or regulatory permission: Bacs scheme rules, the Direct Debit Guarantee, Open Banking standards, PSD2, or safeguarding of customer funds.
  • Strong analytical acumen. You turn messy commercial problems into validated product bets using data, and you work well with Data and BI teams.
  • Market validation experience. You have proven demand for something customers had not adopted yet, and you know when to stop validating and take the bet.

What sets you apart

  • Direct experience taking Variable Recurring Payments from pilot toward a repeatable product.
  • Familiarity with Pay.UK, sponsor banks, indirect access providers and Open Banking providers.
  • A view on PSD3 and where UK payments regulation is heading.
  • E-money or safeguarding product experience
