An Introduction to Primer

Primer is the unified infrastructure for global payments. We give finance and payments teams the visibility and control to reduce complexity, improve performance, and capture more revenue - all from a single platform.

Backed by Sofina, Peak XV Partners, ICONIQ, Tencent, Accel, and Balderton, we're building the payments layer the world's best companies rely on.

Which team will you be joining?

Product at Primer owns the systems that move money for some of the most demanding merchants in the world. We are building payments infrastructure that has to be correct, resilient and fast, in a space where the edge cases are the job, not an afterthought.

In the protection team, you'll play a key role in helping merchants avoid fraud and handle disputes. The Protection team owns the risk management suite that surfaces these threats, and helps merchants build automation to handle them at scale.

You will own protection as a full product area: a coherent space made up of several related problems, with outcomes that persist over quarters and years rather than a single initiative. You set the direction for that area, decide what gets solved and what deliberately does not, and own how success is measured.

You will report into our VP of Product and work day to day with a dedicated engineering team and design partner, alongside GTM, RevOps and Product Marketing. Primer is remote-first and globally distributed, and always will be. We run on written thinking, low bureaucracy and real ownership. You build it, you own it, end to end.

What will you be doing?

  • Owning the strategy and outcomes for your product area, translating company objectives into a multi-quarter plan and clear guardrails for what you will and will not build
  • Resolving genuine ambiguity with evidence and judgment, not waiting for someone to hand you a brief or a roadmap
  • Running discovery and an ongoing insight system for your area: research cadence, merchant and GTM feedback loops, and competitive monitoring that actually changes decisions
  • Working closely with engineering on implementation, architecture and long-term technical direction, not just handing over specs
  • Setting GTM direction for your area, including positioning and pricing input, in partnership with RevOps and Product Marketing
  • Making sophisticated trade-offs across scope, quality and timing, protecting long-term technical health rather than only this quarter's delivery
  • Raising the quality of product thinking around you through clear decision documentation, reusable playbooks and the example you set under pressure
  • Acting as a credible product voice with senior internal stakeholders and directly with key merchants

Reasons to use Rodeo

Iโ€™m in my final year doing Economics and I donโ€™t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer โ€” it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโ€™t need a masters. Letโ€™s look at the ones youโ€™d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ€” that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Must-haves

What we're looking for

  • A track record of owning a product area or substantial problem space end to end, where the outcomes can be traced back to your judgment and execution
  • Strong product judgment in ambiguous, high-stakes situations, with the ability to explain your reasoning clearly
  • Comfort working deeply with engineers on technical and architectural trade-offs, enough fluency to be a real partner rather than a translator
  • Evidence-led decision making: you use data, research and merchant input to decide, and you know when the evidence is thin
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders and align conflicting interests without relying on authority

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in payments, fintech or another complex, regulated or infrastructure domain
  • Experience building or improving the systems and rituals a product team runs on

You may not like it here

  • You are expected to set the strategy for your area, including what not to build. If you do your best work executing a plan someone else owns, this is not the role.
  • We are remote-first and async by default. If you need people physically around you, or real-time availability to feel productive, this is a real adjustment, not a perk.
  • Context and priorities shift as we learn. You will sometimes change direction on work you were attached to, and you need to be able to do that without it derailing you.
  • Feedback here is direct, frequent and not softened. You are expected to give it as well as take it.

โœ… A typical interview process

  • An initial intro call with a Talent Partner
  • An interview with the Hiring Manager
  • Challenge Stage - Contextualised to the role
  • A final, values-alignment interview
