Senior Product Manager, Account-to-Account Payments (Open Banking & VRP)

Location: London, hybrid (3 days in the office)
Salary: £80,000 to £90,000 base, plus bonus and equity

Commercial VRP is being built in the UK right now, and only a handful of firms are in the room.

This is one of them. We are hiring a Senior Product Manager for a fast-growing payments fintech that powers recurring commerce. Card acquiring, Direct Debit, Open Banking and Variable Recurring Payments, all behind one API, on a platform built for subscription billing. They are one of the front-runners on commercial VRP in the UK, and the market is about to move. You will own the whole account-to-account portfolio and report to the CTO, who runs product and engineering.

What you'll own

  • The A2A roadmap across collections and e-money, and the sequencing calls between them. Direct Debit is live and needs to perform. VRP is at pilot in a market that does not exist at scale yet. E-money is a regulatory build as much as a product one. Deciding what comes first, and defending it, is the job.
  • Open Banking and VRP from pilot to a repeatable product: which merchant segments first, what has to be proven before you scale, and the bank authorisation journey as a product problem (completion rate, coverage, app-to-app behaviour across banks you do not control).
  • Direct Debit performance end to end: mandate setup, failed payments, return-reason clusters, retries, dunning and the merchant tooling that cuts involuntary churn.
  • What the e-money permissions unlock commercially, and the product side of account structure, reconciliation and safeguarding with finance, compliance and engineering.
  • Scheme and regulatory delivery: Bacs rules, the Direct Debit Guarantee, Open Banking standards, PSD3 on the horizon. Partners include sponsor banks, indirect access providers, Open Banking providers and Pay.UK.
  • Being the A2A subject matter expert for the business.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you need

  • 5+ years in product management, in a fintech, payments business or Open Banking provider. You have shipped product somewhere that moves fast.
  • Deep knowledge of Open Banking payment initiation and VRP. This is the part that cannot be taught. Direct Debit, Bacs and e-money can be, and will be.
  • You have worked to a scheme rulebook or a regulatory permission, or can show you got on top of one quickly.
  • Market validation experience: you have proved demand for something customers had not adopted yet, with experiments, merchant conversations and pre-agreed metrics, and you know when to stop validating and take the bet.
  • You have held more than one product line at once and made defensible calls between them.
  • You structure problems with data, work well with BI, and can present a recommendation to senior stakeholders and win the room.
  • Hands-on. You do the analysis and run the discovery yourself.

Why now

The team is small, senior and building for the next four years. Equity vests over that period and is meant to be worth something. If you want to shape a payment method the market is still writing the rules for, this is where that happens.

Process

  • Call with How Ya Doing, then the CTO, then a short presentation to the leadership team.
  • No unpaid written work.
