Are you excited about shaping the future of editorial decision-making through AI-powered products that help researchers and publishers make better, faster decisions?

Do you thrive in cross-functional environments where you can combine product strategy, customer insight, data science, and technology to deliver meaningful impact at scale?

About Our Team

Our team supports the editorial workflows of the largest scientific publisher in the world - millions of manuscript submissions a year, a portfolio of thousands of journals, and tens of thousands of editors. As submission volume grows, we modernise editorial processes, so they scale without compromising the integrity of the scientific record. We are a cross-functional, evidence-led team of engineers, UX, data scientists, product analysts and subject-matter experts, and we work to a simple standard: everything we do is grounded in user needs, and we use evidence to make commercially driven priority decisions.

About The Role

This role owns editorial triage — the earliest and highest-volume decision point in the publishing workflow, and the stage most exposed to growing submission pressure. We are looking for a Senior Product Manager with deep product judgement to own the strategy, vision and roadmap for editorial triage. This is a strategy-first role, but a pragmatic one, delivered through a real squad sprint by sprint.

Triage is the early assessment that decides whether a manuscript proceeds to peer review, returns to the author, or is desk rejected. Many submissions are rejected before ever reaching peer review. It remains manual, signal-fragmented, and inconsistently applied: editors gather signals scattered across multiple tools that lack actionable guidance and must assemble and validate by hand before they can decide. A significant portion of triage effort is spent finding and interpreting information rather than making the decision itself.

Your job is to move triage from manual, fragmented manuscript handling toward an AI-assisted editorial intelligence layer that supports human editorial judgement. That means surfacing clear, prioritised, interpretable signals at the point of triage. Editors keep ownership of the decision throughout.

You will help define the path from today's workflow to that layer, working closely with an embedded data science team to commission and interpret signal evaluations, and partnering with the teams that own analytics, integrity, and the wider Editor Workflows pipeline.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We’re looking for a Product Manager who stays close to the technology and can reason about how the AI behaves, how it is evaluated, and where the trade-offs lie. While remaining, first and foremost, a product manager rather than an engineer or data scientist. We expect genuine curiosity: the right person follows new techniques as they emerge, tests them independently and brings informed opinions to decisions rather than waiting for the team to evaluate first.

Role Responsibilities

  • Owning, defining and delivering the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for editorial triage solutions.
  • Leading product delivery within a cross-functional agile team, managing priorities, maintaining a healthy backlog, and ensuring consistent progress.
  • Conducting customer discovery with editorial users, identifying needs across different user groups, and turning insights into product improvements.
  • Designing and improving signal management and triage experiences, helping users prioritise and act on information effectively.
  • Fostering evidence-based decision-making through quantitative and qualitative research, analytics, experimentation, and clearly defined success measures.
  • Partnering with data science teams to evaluate signal quality, accuracy, and confidence, translating findings into product enhancements.
  • Connecting product outcomes to business goals through KPIs, OKRs, success metrics, ROI analysis, and strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborating with engineering and technical teams to evaluate architectural and technical trade-offs.
  • Building products that support transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making, including human oversight and auditability.
  • Working closely with stakeholders across Publishing, Technology, Operations, Editorial Strategy, and Research Integrity to align priorities and communicate impact.
  • Supporting go-to-market planning, product launches, customer adoption, and change management activities.

Skills & Requirements

  • Significant product management experience, including ownership of product strategy, delivery, and roadmap planning. Experience with Spec-Driven Development (SDD) is a bonus.
  • Strong product thinking and the ability to define problems, assess trade-offs, and focus on meaningful user outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with AI and machine learning products, including generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or agent-based workflows.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience interpreting data, running experiments, and making decisions in complex or uncertain environments.
  • Experience leading product initiatives within cross-functional teams and delivering results in evolving environments.
  • Experience partnering with data scientists and using insights from models, experiments, and evaluations to guide product decisions.
  • An understanding of technical concepts and architectural trade-offs, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams. Experience prototyping with AI tools is helpful but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how product decisions contribute to business outcomes.
  • Familiarity with scholarly publishing, editorial workflows, peer review, or research integrity is advantageous but not required.
