Role Description
As a Product Safety Engineer, you will provide pan platform and cross functional safety engineering support across the FalconWorks portfolio, ensuring system safety and certification requirements are effectively integrated from the earliest stages of platform and system design.
Working closely with engineering and technical teams, you will help shape safe, compliant and robust solutions throughout the product lifecycle.
You will evaluate platform, system and sub-system designs, supporting safety certification activities and assessing safety risks as programmes mature. The role includes generating, updating and reviewing safety engineering deliverables, providing expert guidance to project teams, and ensuring safety considerations remain at the heart of engineering decision making from concept through to delivery.
Core Duties
- Collaborate with Technical and Engineering teams to ensure system safety and safety certification requirements are embedded within platform architecture and design during the early lifecycle phases
- Evaluate platform, system and sub-system designs, providing robust safety engineering support throughout the engineering lifecycle and certification process
- Generate, review and maintain system safety engineering deliverables and certification evidence, ensuring compliance with design airworthiness requirements
- Conduct risk assessments, applying strong analytical skills and sound engineering judgement to identify hazards and validate mitigation actions
- Manage, communicate and report residual risks, product integrity issues and corrective actions through to closure
- Assess customer design deviations and determine appropriate recovery or remediation pathways where required

Essential Skills
- Experience in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering and/or Security Engineering within a complex engineering environment
- Proven experience in an engineering integration role across the product lifecycle
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and multidisciplinary engineering environments
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to deliver engineering outcomes
- Ability to support the integration, coordination and delivery of engineering activities across multiple disciplines and lifecycle stages
The FalconWorks Safety Engineering Team
You’ll join the FalconWorks Safety Engineering Team within BAE Systems Air, a specialist group providing product safety expertise across the full Air portfolio. Supporting a diverse range of aerospace programmes, the team works closely with engineering functions to embed safety, influence best practice, and deliver certifiable, high-quality products and services.
