Senior Product Technologist – Food Product Development
Location: Colworth, Bedfordshire
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum
Contract: 12-month Fixed-Term Contract
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days onsite
Are you an experienced Food Product Developer or Product Technologist looking for an opportunity to work on exciting new product development projects within a global food organisation?
We are looking for a Senior Product Technologist to take ownership of product development projects from initial concept through to scale-up and manufacturing. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands not just how to develop a product in the lab, but how to take that product successfully into a factory environment.
You'll be responsible for leading product development activities across the full lifecycle, including:
- Taking concepts from initial ideation through formulation and laboratory development
- Developing and optimising new and existing formulations
- Working with novel ingredients and new product technologies
- Engaging with suppliers to identify and implement appropriate ingredients and solutions
- Managing product scale-up and factory transfer
- Working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure products are ready for production
- Coordinating cross-functional teams and managing project actions, risks, and timelines
- Providing clear technical updates to stakeholders and senior colleagues
- Working within a fast-paced, sprint-based development environment
- Creating and maintaining product specifications and technical documentation

We're particularly interested in candidates with:
- Strong food industry product development experience
- Experience taking products from concept through to commercial manufacture
- Hands-on formulation and laboratory development experience
- Experience with product scale-up and factory transfer
- Experience working with novel ingredients or developing new formulations
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and challenging deadlines
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office and ideally LIMS and/or PLM systems

A Food Technology or Food Science background would be ideal, although candidates with Life Sciences or other relevant scientific backgrounds will also be considered where they have strong food product development experience.
You don't need to have worked for a large corporate organisation. Experience gained within a smaller business, start-up, or entrepreneurial environment is equally valuable.
